About the artist
Hoagie Jay
Hoagie grew up drawing basically everything they could see. They’ve always had a fascination with how things fit together, and they tried to capture that in their art. Hoagie went through dozens of mediums and just couldn’t find something they enjoyed doing for more than a few months. Looking back, they think it was probably the ADHD. In 2024 they tried out a new medium, acrylic paint markers, and fell in love. Acrylic paint markers are the perfect combination of drawing and painting, and Hoagie can get super crisp details in ways a paint brush would never let them. Since then they’ve been painting non-stop. Hoagie works from home and at the Art Awakenings art therapy studio downtown, and they’ve had their work sold at First Friday, the State Fair, and at public art shows. They also sell prints of their work online and have been painting commissions for family and friends. They plan to expand their horizons to more venues and work harder to advertise their art. It would be Hoagie’s dream to fulfill all their financial needs through their art, though they feel that’s far in the future. Hoagie loves painting animals, especially cats, as well as internet memes and anything queer-related. They’ve recently taken an interest in painting magnetic canvases specifically. They can’t count the number of magnets they’ve made. Magnetic canvases are quick and fun to make, and Hoagie loves the way they can pack so much detail into such a small space. Hoagie also runs an Etsy store, Sunstone Sandwich, where they sell their art and jewelry. Hoagie Jay is queer and non-binary, and their pronouns are they/them.
