About this artwork
In this painting you find me sitting in a wheelchair in my hospital gown, my melanoma wound exposed on my leg. The wound is a deep blood burgundy in color and appears raw and barely healed. Medical staple puncture marks and stitching wounds frame the gapping red crater centered on my left calf as my leg is arched up to give a clearer view. This painting gives a glance into the utter isolation one feels in recovery, often left out of daily activities
