About this artwork

In the painting, "before the surgery", I paint the last picture taken of my legs before I was told that I had melanoma. This is when I was still whole. The small bandage on my left calf covers what will be the undoing of my life as I knew it. In the painting, "after the surgery", I mimic the position and point of view of my legs from the previous painting, "before the surgery". Where there once was a small bandage on my leg now has a gaping wound due to the removal of the melanoma.
