The Gate

The Gate began with a photograph I took while four-wheeling with my husband in the Arizona desert. We came across this enormous gate standing seemingly in the middle of nowhere, and I was immediately fascinated by it. When I was invited to create a piece for a shop featuring vintage and weathered metalwork, I knew this mysterious desert scene would be a perfect fit. As I translated the photograph into paint, I added the unexpected hole in the ground—because, to me, the scene needed a little something extra. The addition introduces another layer of mystery, inviting the viewer to wonder about this strange, isolated place and what might lie beneath or beyond it.
