About this artwork

This mural honors the canal system's history in Arizona, started by the Hohokam tribe centuries ago and later becoming the Arizona Canal system, which played a big role in the City of Tolleson’s agricultural growth. The trees pay homage to a row of pecan trees that used to be located along the canal, and where Tolleson residents had a tradition of gathering together to pick pecans. Although the trees no longer exist, the memories still remain among the residents, and the mural is a reminder of those times.
