Most if not all of the work in this series are two-dimensional compositions devoid of recognizable imagery (ie, non-objective, organic, abstract). As is apparent, I’m currently working without color, using every medium that I can either draw with, paint with, smear, drip, putty on, spray, slather, scrape off, cover up, etc., as long as it is black or white. I typically begin a piece by jumping in without overthinking---an impulsive, spontaneous, and intuitive approach. I continue this process until I get to a place where I can see and understand what the piece is becoming. I begin developing the work with those concepts in mind, but continue working loosely, freely, organically. Eventually I reach a point when I see certain areas that need attention---details, contrast, space, light, etc. These pieces are my personal interpretation of the organic processes and complexities that occur both in the natural environment and human form. They are the result of how I experience and respond to these complexities. With nature being my strongest inspiration, I try to emulate through my work a reverence for the natural world and intrigue with living things. And when I make art about these things, I grow, and my world expands.
