Why do we see passion as red? Is it because the color red is linked to arousal & strong emotions? Or that it's the color of blood, the life force essential for our survival. Or perhaps it symbolizes fertility & celebration. Red certainly evokes a sense of urgency, a desire for attention. This painting, with its cascading waves of shades of red, begs for emotion rather than being defined by ordinary shapes. The sole figure, not quite human, not quite abstraction with arms raised relays heightened ecstasy.
