About this artwork

The rangoli is made to be swept away; this one refuses. Nested squares of magenta, gold, and green hold their pattern against a deep green ground — celebration fixed in place, the geometry of memory made permanent on canvas. A reverence for the ancient forms that ritual usually lets go.
