About the artist

Rachel Stark

I am a fiber artist whose work emerges from a deep, craft-based exploration of texture, sensory inquiry, and the stories embedded in materials. The basis of my art practice is a devotion to handspun fibers. I am committed to all the fibers you see being spun by hand, by me. Silk and a wide range of wools are the most commonly found fibers in my work, with a range of other natural plant fibers used like cotton, hemp, and flax. Handspun fiber is often paired with found objects, including natural and industrial wreckage, debris and discard to start conversations between many worlds. All work is based in the belief that they are by their very nature blessings – benedizioni – through the practice of devoted handcraft and sensorial, creative attention and care. This is grounded through the lineages of guides and educators who walk in commitment to keeping handcraft alive. My work has been in galleries and markets from east to west, historic libraries and buildings, the Asheville airport, a range of businesses and homes of private collectors. I love to work commissions that are made with your particular spaces and meanings in mind. Please feel free to reach out for handmade fiber art unique for your spaces.
