About the artist

Lisa Scadron

Growing up in Tucson—immersed in Southern Arizona’s magnificent Sonoran Desert landscape—profoundly influenced my internal identity and aesthetic. The landscape’s color and vastness together with a deeply felt resonance with Georgia O’Keeffe’s art, words and life, informed how I saw and felt the environment around me—I learned to visualize my surroundings in terms of shapes, colors and compositions. Through extensive childhood travel, I was exposed to art of all kinds from all over the world. My formal visual arts training was primarily through public fine arts magnet schooling. Encouraged by my parents and grandfather, a painter, I began oil painting lessons at age eight. I have exhibited artwork in the U.S. and internationally and my art is part of corporate, hotel and hospital collections in the United States and private collections in the United States, Europe, New Zealand and India. Creating art allows me the freedom to not be cerebral—it is about the simple and sensory pleasure of finding out what materials can do and how I can mold them into something beautiful. I layer a wide range of media and iridescent color, sometimes applying as many as ten layers over a period of time to a canvas or panel. I then use palette knives, old kitchen utensils and other tools to mine these layers for hidden colors and textures. If I am patient enough to trust my creative process, the paintings coalesce into works that are at once ethereal and earthy.
