About the artist
John David Yanke
John David Yanke works with common, engineered products such as mattress springs and plywood. His main study is how color and shadow can reveal, conceal and accentuate form. His pieces are the beauty of force and order coerced into a kind of splendor, subdued by color ameliorating the violence in the making. As a part of his investigations, he has worked back into his original love of oil painting creating paintings on canvas, wood and glass depicting the shadows his sculptures produce. John designed seats and saddlebags for Harley-Davidson Motorcycles in the 1990s, operated a mural and faux painting business and remodeled homes in the early 2000s. Currently, he teaches drawing and painting and holds a Master’s degree in guidance counseling from Ottawa University and an MFA in visual art from Azusa Pacific University.
