Gaylen Stewart

Gaylen Stewart is an art professor and artist, working in oil, watercolor and mixed media. His work explores natural phenomenon, noumenon, science, mathematical relationships, design, philosophy, his miraculous healing from cancer and his interaction with God through symbolic imagery and medical documentation. He is a faculty member instructing painting and other art courses at Glendale Community College (GCC) in Glendale, Arizona. Prior to GCC, he held positions at Grand Canyon University, University of Rio Grande and Ohio University. He earned a Master of Fine Arts in painting, with a second major in art history, at Ohio University. The Ohio Arts Council awarded him several professional grants and fellowships, including two Individual Artist’s Fellowships, a Projects Grant and a Professional Development Award. He also received a grant awarded by Robert Rauschenberg and James Rosenquist. His art has been represented in over one hundred exhibitions, including many solo shows at museums, art centers and galleries, including The Albuquerque Museum; The Butler Institute of American Art; Mesa Contemporary Arts Center; The McDonough Museum of Art; Cleveland Center for Contemporary Art; Huntington Museum of Art; Alexandria Museum of Art and the Bellevue Art Museum. His artwork has been reviewed, published and reproduced in several publications including: New American Paintings, Vol. 22; Open Studios; Radix magazine, UK; ARTYFACT, the Magazine of the Arts Centre Group, London; and Dialogue, Arts in the Midwest, among others.
