Fine Art Photographer Working with One Negative At A Time
About the artist
Fred Ullrich
I have been making photographs since my early college days working as a news photographer. I hold a Bachelor of Science Degree from University of Wisconsin, Whitewater and a Master of Science in Education from Northern Illinois University. In the early 80’s I began working at the Chicago based, Fermilab this country’s primary laboratory in Particle Physics Research. I started in the Public Affairs Office with an interest in developing the use of videotape applied programmatically to the basic research activities. For over 28 years I managed and produced nearly 200 finished video programs and carried out hundreds of still photography assignments. This experience helped me develop my image making skills both in still and video. I also maintained a fine art photography practice through showings in local art galleries and participation in juried art fairs. In 2013 my wife and I moved to downtown Phoenix where I continue to pursue my fine art photographic practice in the fabulous Sonoran Desert. I strive to make photographs that comment and express my appreciation for the common objects in unusual light I am finding Phoenix’s downtown landscape is also visually significant. I am spending more time in downtown with the interest in exploring new and existing architectural styles and trends this city has adopted . I strive to make photographs that identify my appreciation for the common, everyday objects that when looked at carefully can add value to our lives.
