About the artist
Daniel Moore is a metal artist and founder of The Oxide Studio, based in Phoenix, Arizona. Originally from Iowa City, he earned his BFA in Graphic Design and Photography from the University of Iowa, where he also minored in Ceramics and Metalwork/Jewelry. After relocating to Phoenix, he worked as a graphic designer for various corporate clients, all while nurturing a deep passion for photography inspired by the work of Ansel Adams. His frequent outdoor explorations—hiking, backpacking, and mountain biking—further shaped his creative vision. Moore's transition to sculpture began when he was introduced to welding through a previous job. Largely self-taught in metalwork, he began creating three-dimensional pieces and launched The Oxide Studio in 2010. His early work focused on botanical-themed panels, using graphic interpretations of Arizona's plant life. Drawing from his background in photography, Moore often “frames” each piece within a rectangular boundary, lending a contemporary, formal structure that contrasts dynamically with the natural surroundings. His work has been exhibited in galleries throughout the Phoenix Metropolitan area and commissioned for a wide range of residential and commercial projects. These include sculptural works, freestanding pieces, architectural gateways, enclosures, and functional art. Since 2015, Moore has increasingly focused on public art—a field he finds deeply rewarding. His public commissions can be found in communities across Arizona (Phoenix, Tucson, Tempe, Scottsdale, Chino Valley, Mesa), as well as in Oklahoma City, OK; Augusta, GA; Henderson, NV. and Memphis, TN.
