Dakota Drake

Dakota Drake is a self-taught freelance artist and illustrator. She is originally from the woods and fields of southern Illinois but has lived in the desert of Arizona for the better part of a decade. She’s an adaptable and intuitive artist who loves playing with styles and genres. Her passion is making sequential art, especially comics and illustrations. She is an arts educator that teaches art to students of all ages. There’s a 100 year age gap between her youngest and oldest students: she taught classes to 2 year old toddlers, and classes to senior citizens, including a 102 year old life-long learner. While she loves making narrative art that tells beautiful, strange stories full of love and whimsy, her work often uses nature to explain very personal feelings as well as wider issues. She attempts to make art that seeks to bring awareness of the importance of wildlife and untouched wilderness to the public. She wants to create things to enrich the lives of viewers, by making them imagine a wilder, stranger, more natural existence within our daily lives.
