About the artist
Charmagne Vasquez
Charmagne Vasquez, Artist (b, 1970) Charmagne Vasquez was born in Phoenix, Arizona. She is a visual artist of abstract and symbolist painting and drawing, and a free verse poet. Her love and curiosity of nature is translated into her emotional, colorful, and textured works on canvas. Charmagne was raised in an entrepreneurial family of master artists and performing musicians who encouraged her path. She has a minor in art and a BA in elementary education from Northern Arizona University. From 1993-2007, Charmagne Vasquez (formerly Charmagne Coe) painted and wrote poetry concurrent to teaching elementary school, and operating a fair-trade fiber arts boutique, Unravel. In 2008, Charmagne began exhibiting modern surrealistic mixed media paintings and drawings. She went on to win awards, be published in international publications, collaborate in graphic design, and have representation by contemporary art galleries and projects in Arizona, Los Angeles, Seattle, and London. In 2015, Charmagne’s move to remote Vashon Island, Washington, profoundly shifted her creative direction toward biophilia – humans’ innate tendency and need to connect with nature. Her work was impacted by the dichotomy of the Pacific Northwest temperate rainforests, and biomes in Arizona. Since 2016, Charmagne is based in Phoenix. Her works often explore evolutionary adaptations in nature, fragility vs. resilience and societal paradigms. Current paintings incorporate found, up-cycled materials and flora from immediate environments. Her works are found in international public and private collections. Representation: Bobby Beals Presents, Santa Fe, New Mexico
