About the artist

C.M. ‘Charley’ Zach

Charley, an Iowa native, as a young child, his family moved to Arizona. After several moves from town-to-town, his family eventually settled in Kingman. It was in Kingman, at a young age, he discovered an ability to draw objects, in nature and his surroundings, with detail and composition, scale and perspective, before he knew what those words meant. After graduating from high school and serving in the Navy, as a Construction Mechanic in the SEABEES, he moved with his wife, Kathleen, and children to Phoenix where he earned a Bachelor of Science Degree from Grand Canyon College. He taught high school science in the Phoenix Metropolitan area for twenty-four years. While teaching, he also earned a Master of Arts Degree from Chapman College. He is a self-taught artist and has always enjoyed sketching, using just a simple number two pencil, pen & ink, and colored pencils as well. He has taken art classes in basic design, watercolor and acrylic painting and has completed artwork in a wide variety of medium before deciding to tackle something different and unusual with glass tile creating mosaics. According to C.M. “Charley” Zach, there is a tendency to think of mosaics as tile being set on outside patio furniture, such as table tops or the top surface of bench seats. So, creating mosaics was a way he found to expose an audience to a type of artwork that is non-traditional in form and not readily seen every day in art galleries. He now resides in Peoria and has been recently taking harmonica lessons and now he plays in a garage band that entertains folks who gather for a festive night of music, food and fun in what is called “Tunes & Spoons” in the Heber-Overgaard area in northern Arizona. His love of music has influenced many of his mosaics. C.M “Charley” Zach has broken away from the stereotypical view of a mosaic being decoration on outdoor furniture and has created unique wall hangings that can be enjoyed for a lifetime wherever they will be displayed. His mosaics are truly “Amazing Mosaics.” For more information or to buy an Amazing Mosaic, visit www.amazingmosaics.net or call 928-699-1374.
