Becky Lee Broihier-Johnson

Artist Biography Becky Lee Broihier-Johnson never wanted to be an artist. She always felt that art was not a responsible career for an adult to have. Fate had other plans for her future. She started as an art major, changed her major 4 times and ended up graduating with an art degree. She tried graphic arts but found it was not for her. She enjoyed ten plus years of working with clay but had to change careers in order to make a living. She ended up going back to school in in 2007 and earned her teaching certificate in K-12 art. Becky worked for eleven years as an art teacher teaching forth through twelve graders art. Then the pandemic hit the country. The pandemic was an eye opener for both Becky and her husband. She was diagnosed with breast cancer in 2019. This, coupled with her lack of and immune system, an illness found when she was sixteen, forced her to except an online position. Becky’s husband and her decided that they needed to make a life change. They wanted to work less, spend more time together and not live in such a cold climate. In February 2021, Becky’s husband accepted a job in Palm Harbor, Florida. Due to her health, Becky is no longer teaching art but rather making it. Whether she is feeling well or feeling poor, she can pick up a pencil and draw. She can create, she can make, she can be a positive impact on the world which she lives in. Becky had not wanted to become an art. Thank goodness the future decided otherwise.
