Annika Banko

 Annika Banko is self taught, working in large scale abstracts. As an artist, expression through her work is essential to her being. Annika’s process is inspired by the experiences that make us feel so deeply. The human experiences that shape us. Love, loss, heartbreak and becoming. She sees Life itself as a tragic and heroic process. Her practice comes from within. A second generation artist, Annika grew up surrounded by art in its many forms. At a young age she developed a passion for movement and melody. The first step in her creative process is music. Filling her studio with sentiment and gesture to arouse creative appetite then approaching the canvas directly, in the moment, using her entire body to create the work. Mysteriously generating power, Annika’s process continuously moves her around the canvas offering the freedom to change directions at any point in her execution. She uses bold colors and random applications of light and blackness to reflect mood and create contrast in her compositions. Annika Banko’s technique alludes to a mental space beyond the pictorial. She paints what she feels and continues to evolve with her art. She believes in expressing all that we are, sharing it vigorously with those who wish to receive it. “I’ve learned that creativity knows no boundaries. It connects us, it inspires us, it heals us.” Annika Banko’s energetic, moody works grace the walls of high end collectors throughout the US and have been exhibited in Maui, HI – San Diego, CA – Wynwood, Miami – Birmingham, MI – Chelsea, New York.
