About the artist
Kristy Winterbourne
Through her work, Kristy Winterbourne explores the undisclosed and unseen sense of self. By way of gesture and fine detail, her hand sculpted figures pose the questions of what is behind the eye, who is beyond the tale, and what could truly be beneath the surface. The subject matter that is explored has direct influence from ancient art history, folklore, mythology, past civilizations, as well as human behavior and social norms. Through differing narratives, she seeks to celebrate who we are, recognize monumental moments, and invoke deep emotion. Kristy received a BFA in 3D Studio Art and a minor in Art History from Northern Illinois University. After spending years as a professional goldsmith and stone setter, she turned her attention to figurative sculpture. Her work has been exhibited throughout the U.S. and she is a grant recipient of Arizona Commission on the Arts
