About the artist
Amy MacHale
Amy MacHale is an abstract artist recognized for her distinctive technique of painting with moonshine and alcohol ink. Originally from the suburbs of Chicago, she now lives and works in Phoenix, Arizona. She earned her Bachelor of Fine Arts (BFA) in Visual Arts from The University of Arizona in 2000 and has explored a wide range of mediums throughout her career. In 2020, during the challenges of the pandemic, Amy rediscovered her passion for painting through alcohol inks. When isopropyl alcohol was unavailable, she turned to an unexpected alternative—190 proof moonshine from her family’s own distillery. This inventive solution gave rise to Shine Art, her signature artistic expression. Her work is inspired by life experiences and a love of travel. As an artist for The Hidden Truths Project, Amy raises awareness for those living with epilepsy, including her son, and has exhibited in Chicago, Newport Beach, and Boston. She has also participated in residencies in both Arizona and North Carolina, further shaping her creative journey. Locally, Amy’s art has been shown at the Phoenix Art Museum, The Herberger Theater Art Gallery, and in the Mailbox Art Project. Beyond exhibitions, she shares her passion for Shine Art by leading painting events that invite both seasoned creators and first-time painters to explore her unique medium.
