Josh Vella

Josh Vella was born in Syracuse, NY and enjoyed creating, drawing and painting as a child. While in school art class, he preferred drawing still life, but his artwork evolved from drawing to painting. He ultimately won awards for his art and portfolio at a local art competition while in high school. Josh’s artwork was on pause as his interests took him on another journey through medical school and an orthopedic surgery residency. After medical training, he moved to Phoenix, AZ to build his medical practice and have a family. After creating a successful medical career, the intense demands of the work environment and family drove him to question his path. From the outside looking in, his life was a success, but he felt disillusioned with a materialistic lifestyle and started to explore a deeper meaning in life. Josh felt like he lost himself in a world geared toward production and consumption. As he sought answers to provide solace in this confused state, he was reminded of what he loved as a child – Art. He began painting in 2017, exploring, experimenting and playing. After a long day of meticulous surgery, abstract loose art designs became his interest. Art was the tool that provided a pathway back to his soul. Life became more meaningful and purposeful and after a 30-year hiatus, the spare bedroom became the art studio and he reclaimed his artist’s soul.
