Andres Gonzalez

Mexican American photographer, born and raised in Saltillo Coahuila, a small city in northern Mexico, nestled in a valley between “La Sierra Madre” mountain range and the Sonoran Desert, currently based in Arizona. After spending most of his adult life, from one day job to another, trying to make ends meet and provide for his family, he decided to recognize and delve into his creative urges as way to reclaim his life beyond surviving and getting by. Since he had always been fascinated by the visual arts, and having been taking pictures throughout his life as a hobby, photography was a readily available outlet for his creative urges. As he leaned more intentionally into photography as a craft, he quickly identified as a photographer and wanderer of the urban landscape. An observer walking life’s road, watching a mirage of images pass us by, using photography to find and capture the inherent beauty that accompanies us along the path. ​Andres Gonzalez is a photographer best known for his spontaneous, painterly compositions featuring subjects and scenes he finds while roaming the urban landscape. His approach combines a disciplined work ethic with incidental encounter. Instead of scouting and planning his shooting locations, Gonzalez prefers to wander and let his curiosity and intuition take the lead. He relies on real-time gut feelings as he approaches the objects and environments that steal his gaze. His work emphasizes basic visual elements we often take for granted: color, line, shape, texture, etc. Rarely modifying the scenes and objects he encounters, he employs traditional design principles to find aesthetic arrangements in-camera. By exploiting time and circumstance, Gonzalez elevates the seemingly mundane into art and poetry. Although he still keeps busy, juggling family time, a full time day job, he carves out time for and increasingly leans into fine art photography and has expanded his craft developing fashion, jewelry and other things with designs based on his photography.
