About the artist

Mary Helsaple

Helsaple is a Sedona artist, whose objective is to create art that connects people with wild nature and positively impacts how humans live and respect our planet. Helsaple grew up on the west coast, has a BFA from San Francisco State University and resided in Colorado for 35 years, where I received the Governor’s Award in the Arts for the State of Colorado in 2000. “The Physics of Watercolor is a self-published guide to working in watercolor. Mary is involved in the regional arts in Arizona for 15 years, and participated artist is residence program in Nation Parks, exhibitions at the Forbes Gallery in NYC and San Francisco, a one-women show at the Pikes Peak Center in Colorado Springs, juried exhibits at the Herberger Theater and Artlink PHX, as well as Sedona Visual Art Open Studios and participates in national juried exhibitions. Living in Sedona since 2007, she is an avid birdwatcher, and teaches Water media at the Sedona Art Center. Previously teaches watercolor at Yavapai Community College and Sitka Center for Art and Ecology in Oregon where she taught “Painting Beyond the Subject” in 2022-3. Presently her paintings travel nationally in “Environmental Impact II”, an exhibit of 25 nationally recognized artists depicting the impact humans have on the environment in museums (from 2015) through 2025.
