About the artist
Patricia Sannit
Patricia Sannit is known for her work in ceramics, sculpture, multi-media work, and community projects. Her work explores human interactions, and her interactions, with the natural world and beyond. A significant area of study has been human evolution and our species’ resilience through time, and the power and persistence of migration as an adaptive strategy. Sannit is currently working on a series of environmental insertions and community-based performances inspired by 19th century biologist Jakob von Uexküll’s concept of “Umwelt, a description of the phenomenological world which an organism inhabits. Sannit’s site-responsive multimedia sculptural installations allow for expanded perception of nature. She received her MFA from California College of Arts. Awards include the Scult Contemporary Forum Artist Award and the Arizona Art Commission artist award. Residencies include the Archie Bray, Belger Crane Yard, Tempe Center for the Arts, Jentel Foundation, the Woodman Foundation, and the MacDowell Foundation. Solo shows include the ASU Art Museum, Phoenix Art Museum and the Mulvane Museum.
