I grew up on Bainbridge Island, WA. An island across from Downtown Seattle. I took a few art classes in high school but stopped when the free art supplies weren’t available after graduation. I think a lot of people play into the broke Artist narrative and for me it was always just a way for me to unplug and unknowingly meditate. So decided to go a different direction. I then went to college at Azusa Pacific University in Southern California where I continued my artistic expression through photography, my marketing degree and a few startups I launched in my time there. It never left me. I’ve always needed a way to express myself creatively one way or another. It wasn’t until I moved to Scottsdale, AZ that I really started tapping back into those roots though and reinventing. After showing some friends old pieces from high school I was heavily encouraged to pick up painting again. I figured why not, and somehow these pieces and this unique style started flowing out of me. It brought me more joy than I could have ever imagined. My pieces reflect what I’ve learned and how I see and approach the world up to this point. They’re colorful, they don’t always just perfectly match the room they’re in. But that’s intentional because neither do the subjects I paint. They stand out. We’re all unique, and none of us are simply black or white. We all show our colors in different ways, in our actions, our creativity, how we love, how we feel pain, what we’re good at, what we struggle with and most importantly how we treat others. People won’t always remember what you said but they’ll remember how you made them feel and these pieces do a good job at evoking a feeling. We are all complex creatures but we also all have this inter connectivity of being alive and having human experiences. As different as we all are, we all have these unique similarities that bring us together and shouldn’t be pulling us apart. The colors I choose to use reflect that. I feel my subjects energy and it manifests into the colors that go onto the canvas and that somehow comes together to create an image of their likeness that can be felt as vividly as it’s seen. My goal is to create art that brings people together and that allows us the opportunity to feel an individuals unique and beautiful energy long after they’re no longer here.
